Children's Privacy Notice

Last updated · 2026-05-28

Draft. This page is a working draft and may be updated before launch.

How Daily Out Loud protects children's information.

What information we collect

Daily Out Loud is designed to collect as little information as possible about children. In the default local-only mode, no personal information leaves the device. No account is required to use any core practice feature.

  • No required account for children. Children practice locally, under a parent- or guardian-created family profile. No child has a separate online account in the current version.
  • Practice data stays on-device by default. Session records, streak counts, and activity history are stored only on the device and are not transmitted to our servers unless a family explicitly enables cloud sync (a future opt-in feature).
  • No collection of name, photo, or contact information from children. A display name chosen by the parent/guardian is stored locally only.
  • Anonymous usage metrics only. If aggregate, non-personal analytics are ever enabled, they will be COPPA-compliant and will not include child identifiers.

Parent and guardian controls and consent

We follow the principle that parents and guardians control how their family uses Daily Out Loud. Verifiable parental consent is required before any data about a child is collected or shared beyond the local device.

  • The family profile, child display names, and all settings are created and managed by the parent or guardian account holder.
  • Any future feature that would collect or transmit child data to our servers will display a clear, plain-language consent prompt that parents must explicitly accept.
  • Parents may review, export, or delete all locally-stored family data at any time through the app settings.

Microphone use is private and parent-controlled

When a child practices out loud, their voice stays private. Microphone access is parent-controlled, and we handle any audio with care.

  • Voice recordings are processed on-device when possible. No audio is sent to our servers.
  • If a device's built-in speech recognition is used (a browser or OS feature), that is subject to the device vendor's own privacy policy, not ours. We do not store the resulting transcripts.
  • We will always display a clear indicator when the microphone is active.

We never sell or share children's data

Daily Out Loud does not sell, rent, license, or otherwise commercially disclose personal information about children to any third party. This applies to advertising networks, data brokers, and analytics providers. There are no exceptions.

Ads are off by default for kids and parent-controlled

There are no advertisements of any kind within child-facing areas of Daily Out Loud. No ad networks. No behavioural tracking for advertising purposes. If any sponsored content is ever added to adult-facing areas, it will not appear in child profiles and will be clearly labelled.

How families can request data access or deletion

Parents and guardians can request access to, correction of, or deletion of their family's data at any time. To submit a request:

  • Use the in-app data export or deletion tools in Family Settings (where available).
  • Email us at the address in the contact section below. Include "Family Data Request" in the subject line and describe what you would like us to do.
  • We will respond within 30 days and complete verifiable requests within 45 days.
